NICO Pension hosts Client Engagement Seminar in Mzuzu

NICO Pension hosted a client engagement seminar for its Mzuzu based clients and stakeholders on Friday 8th November 2019 at Sunbird Mzuzu Hotel. The theme for the seminar was “ Safeguarding Tomorrow –It’s Possible” and saw clients from all over northern region attend. The aim of the event is to provide NICO Pension and NICO Life clients with updates on the regulatory framework regarding Group Pension and Group Life. In his opening remarks, NICO Life CEO, Mr. Eric Chapola said that the meetings help to underscore the importance of pension in Malawi and give stakeholders updates on Pension landscape and information on the investment of pension funds. “It is our annual duty to meet our stakeholders and share updates on pension as the funds are held in trust by NICO as well as clarify any issues stakeholders may have” he said. He encouraged those present to be attentive and develop a keen interest in pensions and the seminar as it’s a great tool to assist patrons in planning well for their retirement.

NICO Life and NICO Pension Staff Donate to Kondanani Childrens Home

NICO Life Insurance Company its subsidiary NICO Pension Services Company members of staff made a donation of assorted items to Kondanani Children’s home in Bvumbwe. The donation was made as a result of the staff members actions to live their values of professionalism and integrity and in a bid to give back to the community. The staff in the spirit of promoting their values, fine each other when one does not live up to their values such as being late to internal meetings or attending to phones during meetings. The funds raised from staff was used to purchase the various items that were donated on the day. The items that were handed over included maze flour, rice, cooking oil, washing powder and juice.

In her remarks, NICO Life Acting Business Development and Marketing Manager Nancy Bisika advised that the staff were all deeply moved and inspired with the children’s village hence the donation to encourage the kids to live by the values they are brought up with. Representing NICO Pension, Client Relationship Manager Stella Phanga said staff were eager to contribute to Kondanani Children’s Village being their partner. Speaking on behalf of Kondanani, Cherie advised she was happy to receive the timely gifts from NICO Life and Pension staff and was glad to hear how funds were raised. She thanked the team for the visit and was happy with the story behind the donation saying it will motivate the children to work hard and be disciplined and professional like NICO Life and Pensions staff.



NICO Donates to Chileka Police Station

NICO Life Insurance Company Limited has donated a color printer to Chileka Traffic Police Office in Blantyre after the company noted with concern that the station does not have a printer

Speaking during the handover presentation, NICO Life Acting Business Development and Marketing Manager Nancy Bisika said that the printer was donated in response to the Police Stations need. “We felt the donation of the printer is a necessary resource for the station considering that documents such as accident reports and files were being printed or copied at a private printing bureau. The printing and photocopy of items at another location could’ve created risk of compromising the security and privacy of the documents hence our donation. In addition we ensured that the type of printer we provide is multifunctional and easy to service”.

In her remarks, Chileka Police Station Officer in Charge Miss D. Lemani SACP said she was happy to receive the printer and that it will go a long was in addressing the day to day administrative duties of the station and that its importance cannot be over-emphasized.

NICO Life 2019 Tilinanu Golf Day

Lilongwe-based golfer Stafford Mpoola walked tall on the greens of Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC) on Saturday 7th September 2019 after beating a field of 112 golfers to win the NICO Life Insurance Company Limited Golf Tournament.

Mpoola had 38 points—17 front and 21 at the back— to count out closest challenger Mohammad SuhailKasmani to second position while Rashid ‘Rashy’ Gaffar was third on 37 points. Justin Mkandawire was nearest to the pin while Sean Raman had the longest drive.

In the ladies section, Cathy Wakadiwa-Matura was the champion after bagging 36 points, Immaculate Singano was second with 35 points while Bose Kampulutsa was third with 34 points. Sheila Chinkhandwe was nearest to the pin awhile Sandra Komakechi had the longest drive. The winners in men’s and women’s categories took home K150 000 shopping vouchers plus a trophy each.

In his speech Mpoola thanked NICO Life for sponsoring the tournament. “It was a great tournament. I enjoyed my golf though it was windy. I just played my usual golf and tried to enjoy it as much as I could. It’s great to have won against some of the best golfers in the land,” he said.

On her part, Wakadiwa-Matura said: “My playing partners were all men and I guess this encouraged me to play on their level. I am so happy to have won today. Many thanks to NICO Life.”

The tournament drew golfers from Blantyre, Lilongwe, Kasungu and Dwangwa.

NICO Life Chief Executive Officer Eric Chapola described the golf as a success. “The turnout was excellent. It was a full course.  Golf is a medium to associate with business captains. We believe now we have captured the Lilongwe market. It’s a development area for our business,” he said. Chapola also briefed golfers on new product Tilinanu Funeral Policy. “This is an individual policy which can be purchased by any eligible individual. The policy pays up to K1 million in case of death. The minimum premium is K800 per month. A member who buys this policy can add a spouse plus four children and also four parents plus six extended members,” he said.

NICO Life also donated K300 000 towards maintenance of the golf course.

LGC captain Brigadier General ChikunkhaSoko described the tournament as a big success.
