NICO LIFE AIMING FOR GREATER HEIGHTS

NICO Life Insurance Company recently conducted a two-day training seminar for its life sales agents at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi under the theme Taking Business to Greater Heights' where a professional facilitator was hired to conduct the proceedings. Moffat Katundulu, NICO Life Insurance Company Limited marketing manager, said the seminar was aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of the life sales agents taking into account the inevitable changes in the industry and the economy as a whole.
"Sales is a very taxing profession as such we accorded our sates team a time to relax while acquiring customer service skills. They also had time to interact and share ideas on how best they can sell and approach clients," he said Alice Pete, a life sales agent said the training was worthwhile because it equipped her with the necessary tactics and skills to reach out to the 97 percent of the country's population who do not have life insurance policies. "According to Reserve Bank of Malawi statistics, only three percent [of the population] is insured. This shows that most people do not realise that insurance is a basic need. After this capacity-building seminar, we will be able to reach out to the remaining uninsured population," she said.
Georgina Jabu, the company's sales development assistant manager, added that the company is geared at creating wealth for all its stakeholders through innovative life insurance products and first class service. She said NICO Life wants not only to satisfy its clients but delight them as well, hence the training for the sates force. "NICO Life continues to grow because of professional, competent and innovative staff, that are a product of similar training sessions," she said.
The training that attracted 30 agents from Blantyre, Lilongwe and Mzuzu, touched on topics such as team-building, customer-centric service, goal setting and self motivation, among others. As a way of motivating the agents, awards and bonuses were given out and the Blantyre team emerged the best regional team. The best chairperson award ako went to a Blantyre team member, Sonia Ngosi white Alice Pete gotthe upcoming agent award The best sates agent overall was Matthews Manunda. Jabu added that agents who sold policies with higher premiums in 2008 also got recognition and incentives.
The company offers individual life and group business products. Group business products include group life assurance schemes, group credit life insurance, group mortgage protection schemes, group funeral insurance schemes, group pension administration schemes, gratuity schemes for contract staff, among others. Individual life products include personal investments and life covei products. Katundulu added that because of NICO Life's long existence and stability in the industry, clients are assured of robust financial security commitment and well grounded experience in providing them with creative financial solutions.
In attendance at the seminar were Chris Kapanga, CEO of NICO Life Insurance and Tawonga Manda, life manager for individual life business, who between them, outlined the challenges that NICO Life will face in 2009 and the strategies planned to counter them. They encouraged the agents to give feedback which will assist in the development ol new products. NICO Life, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NICO Holdings Limited has been writing pensions and life insurance business since 1972.
