PARACHUTE BATTALION WINS MALAWI DEFENCE FORCE SPORTS FESTIVAL
NICO Life Insurance Company Limited has promised to increase sponsorship for Malawi Defence Force Force (MDF) annual sports festival. Former NICO Life General Manager, Stain Singo, said that sponsorship amount will increase from K 2 million to K2.5 million next year in order to accommodate the introduction of other sports disciplines.
Stain Singo said this on Friday 22nd August 2008 at Malawi Armed Forces College (MAFCO) in Salima where he presented prizes to this year’s winners Parachute Battalion.
Stain Singo said NICO Life’s sponsorship to the sports festival is motivated by the work that MDF does to Malawi Nation. “ We have lots of soldiers who are our customers and besides, MDF is doing a lot of work in terms of security to the Malawi Nation without which, business would be very difficult.” said Stain Singo.
In his remarks, the Director of Training at MDF, Major General David Sefu said that Soldiers are supposed to be healthy and this festival also helps to choose good standard teams at Army and national levels.
Major General Sefu also said that a number of sports disciplines have been introduced this year because of the assistance rendered to MDF by NICO Life.
In overall unit performance category the winning unit was Parachute Battalion with 57 points and they got K 300,000, a Trophy and a Shield from NICO Life.
Third Battalion Malawi Rifles were runners up with 49 points and they received K200,000. First Battalion Malawi Rifles with 23 points were third and they got K 100,000.
The Sports disciplines at the festival included volley ball, football, weightlifting, basket ball, netball, discus, boxing, tag of war and darts.
Chief of Staff Major General Evalisto Kadzeya congratulated those who had done well and encouraged those who failed to work hard.
