LAMECK QUEENS RETAIN NICO LIFE TROPHY
28/11/2011

Davie Lameck Queens on 26th November 2011 beat Paladin Sisters 60-36 to retain the K1.7 million Nico Life Trophy for the third year running.

Playing before a capacity crowd at Rosedale Court, Lameck Queens (formerly Kato and Mzuzu Queens), were a beauty to watch.

Tapiwa Chikowoka did the shooting to perfection while Hilda Chimtengo, Maggie Sikwese, Stella Kamanga, Happiness and her sister Vanessa Soko, and Gelina Mwale offered firm defence that enabled them to retain the title.

On the other hand, Paladin offered strong resistance that made Queens sweat for their victory.

Paladin had shooter Fwasani Mwafulirwa, centre Norah Shama, Abgail Mwalughali, Nelas Mwalwanda, Colleta Mwalirino, Idah Kaira and Jenala Khunga who were impressive in attack and defence.

For being champions, Lameck Queens carted home K200 000, individual medals and a trophy. The runners-up received K100 000 and individual medals.

Speaking during prize presentation, Nico Life Insurance marketing manager Mofati Katundulu said his company was pleased by the organisation of the tournament. To that effect, he said, next year the stakes will be increased.

On his part, Justice Msopera from the Ministry of Sports, thanked the sponsors for complementing government efforts in promoting sports in the country. He appealed to players and other netball stakeholders in the region to buy Nico Life Insurance policies as one way of guarding the sponsorship.
