NICO Life Insurance Company Limited held a family HIV and Aids day to sensitise employees, their spouses and children on the dangers of the pandemic.

The company's chief executive officer Osman Karim said the event is in line with their HIV and Aids workplace Policy.

"We are planning to make this an annual event. This is a different approach to ensuring that we break the silence that is there in families to do with the pandemic and sexual issues," he said.

Karim said similar activities would also be held for their workforce in Mzuzu and Lilongwe so they know some pertinent issues to do with reproductive health and HIV and Aids,

"There are some issues which couples do not discuss. By bringing a health expert on reproductive health, we have achieved a lot in terms of breaking the silence on sexual issues and HIV, the virus that causes Aids," he explained.

Karim said the lessons would be a reference point in the families considering that HIV and Aids matters are not commonly discussed at family level.

"As NICO, we wanted to demonstrate that we are not only concerned about production, but families where our employees come from. Spouses play an important role in the company; hence, the idea to bring them together," Karim explained.
